After an incredible comeback in the 2024/25 season – reaching 10th place (4th in the Super League relegation group) and thus staying up directly – an unforgettable campaign came to an end. In the final stretch the lads put together an astonishing run: 9 matches, 20 points, pure passion, pure character. What hardly anyone still thought possible became reality – we stayed in the league outright… and how!
I am delighted to be taking on the role of head coach at FC Winterthur. After my intense time at Neuchâtel Xamax, where I succeeded as a “firefighter” in reaching the goal of avoiding relegation, a new and exciting challenge now lies ahead of me.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Xamax for our time together and for their trust. It was a demanding but also extremely instructive task that I will remember fondly.
My clear aim is to keep FC Winterthur in the Super League and to develop the team further. I see great potential in this squad and I look forward to working with the players, the club and the fans to achieve that goal.
For me this task means not only responsibility, but also the chance to bring in my passion for football and my ambition. I am convinced that with hard work, team spirit and determination we will be successful.
An exciting and successful 2023/24 season comes to an end. The team played a strong second half of the season and finished in 4th place.

At the end of April I had the opportunity to speak for AutoScout24 at the Morning Session in the Letzigrund stadium. I explained the parallels and the differences between the world of football and the automotive industry. The audience gained fascinating insights into motivation and the development of professional football, as well as interesting background from my experience as a coach.

An intense first half of the season with Neuchâtel Xamax comes to an end. The overall verdict before the winter break is a thoroughly respectable one. After a furious start to the new season, a few weaker spells followed towards the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was then more consistent, and FC Neuchâtel Xamax goes into the break with 23 points in 4th place (last season 22/23: 10th place, ed.). Given last season, the lads can enjoy a peaceful Christmas period before picking up training again full of anticipation on 4 January 2024.
